Malcolm Lamphere Named to Honorable Mention
Collegiate All-American List

Freshman Excels

Fifty-three college sailors were announced today as members of the 2015 All-American Team. Yale landed both primary skippers in the All- American list but their two younger sailors were listed as Honorable Mentions. This is quite a feat. Lamphere is one of two freshman men to receive recognition. Lamphere marks a most successful freshman year in singlehanded competition – fifth in the nation, team racing with the National Championship Yale team and participating in the qualifying rounds of the national co-ed series winning races to allow the two primary skippers a day’s rest.  He is a rising star in college sailing.

Who should attend?

  • All X and Opti sailors who want Sally Barkow and Stephanie Roble as coaches. Last year’s participants trophied at the ILYA X and Opti Champs. There is nothing like expert instruction to up your game.
  • New or more inexperienced C and MC sailors. A coach per boat is provided.
  • Any 15-16 year old considering a C or MC scow next year. A coach per boat is provided.
  • YOUR WIFE who isn’t learning that well from YOU!
  • Crews of all abilities
  • Moms who would like to return to sailing. Bring your daughter and sail right along with her.
  • New addition – if you are a college sailor and want to learn matchracing, Maggie Shea will run sessions on this special discipline. Please register with a partner so we can even up the matches. UW or UM or UWM ILYA women, consider bringing your women’s team to freshen up your rules knowledge, quick boat handling and skills that translate to the quick, tight college sailing style of racing.

Now we need you! Registration is important for instructor and boat assignment. We currently have 25 participants but can handle more.
Banquet only – All ILYA Women are invited.

Please consider attending to sit with our youth and serve as an example of all we embody.

(Both X sailors need to register)

Donations to support women’s sailing? – checks made out to ILYA and sent to Candace Porter, N9322 Beulah Park Road, East Troy, WI 53120. Thank you for your sustained support of the event.

Is your boat legal?
Help the Race Committee

Downwind finishes often allow for speed in the start of the succeeding race but reading sail numbers with this finish may provide a challenge for the finishing boats. The trick RC uses is to look down on the deck to read the letters as the boat crosses. If you are a C or X boat, please add the deck numbers to your boat if they are absent. The class measurer will ask you to add them at the event even if with electrical tape but why use this homemade approach? Dress up your boat with the proper numbering.

GLSS Dinghyfest – First Regatta at Buddy Melges Sailing Center
Fontana Bridge News

NO trailers are allowed across the Abbey bridge.  This includes all sailboat trailers including X Boat and MC trailers.  Apparently they will be cracking down and ticketing all vehicles crossing bridge with trailers.

For those of us traveling to Geneva, please consider exiting Hwy 43 at East Troy taking Hwy 120 to Lake Geneva , take 12 to Lake Geneva and take the 50 exit and the bypass around the city of Lake Geneva. The time will not be substantially different.
Please be aware of this inconvenience and spread the word to any friends who may be transporting boats to and from the club for any upcoming regattas.

The Dinghyfest features X boats on Monday and Tuesday. This is the tuneup for the BIG GIG in Pewaukee. All the top boats will attend. PRO David Porter returns with his team – Jim Smith, Beth Wyman, Julie Haeger, Candace Porter, Suzi Reese and new this year Dale Roble. It’s the same team for over 10 years who love to welcome this competitive fleet to great water similar to the long courses you will see at the ILYA X champs.

Wednesday is Optimist Dinghy and 420 day. New this year is John Zils as PRO of the RWB fleet. This is his second time around since his grandson enters the RWB fleet. Jane Pegel returns as Head Judge this year. The Green fleet will see Candace Porter return as PRO but with the help of most capable GLSS instructors as experts for the land sessions and coaching on the water. Thursday is O’pen Bic day.
